BATON ROUGE, LA - Suspects burst into a Baton Rouge home and shot and killed a 42-year-old woman and shot her nine-year-old daughter six times Friday morning.

A report on WAFB.com said the young girl managed to get to the telephone to call 911 and is currently in critical condition.

Police have been searching for clues but so far have no motive as to why the crime was committed.

Police said the suspects were described as two black men on bicycles and they are enlisting the public's help to find those responsible.

The nine-year-old girl, Arianna Angler, who was shot at least six times during a Baton Rouge home invasion underwent her second surgery Saturday.

Her mother, 42-year-old Alexandra Angler, was killed when gunmen broke into their home near downtown.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The man charged in September's Beauregard Town murder has pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Aramis Jackson has been formally charged by the district attorney with killing Alexandra Engler and shooting her 9-year-old daughter Ariana multiple times.

Ariana is living out-of-state right now. She is said to be recovering slowly. Her grandmother, Bonnie Hunt, was in court for the arraignment. She says she needed to be here.

"This is the first time I have specifically and it just felt like it was something I needed to do," said Hunt. "I need to follow up on the case as the D.A. presents it and that's what I'm here to do."

Defense attorney Nelvil Hollingsworth enrolled today, although he has been on the case for a while.

"That's the reason for filing my initial discovery motions," said Hollingsworth. "We'll see what comes in on that and then I'll make a determination of where I want to go with experts and my review and plans. I'll be starting my own investigation into the case as well."

Bonnie Hunt will be accepting her daughter's graduation diploma from the medical college she was studying at the time of her death.

Judge does not allow Aramis Jackson's attorneys to recuse themselves

A judge has decided that accused killer Aramis Jackson will not get new lawyers.

District Court Judge Tony Marabella ruled on the motion Wednesday that he believes there is no conflict with Jackson's current attorneys. Attorney David Price with the Baton Rouge Conflict Office is handling his case and claims he should be allowed to withdraw because of a conflict with Jackson's father in another murder case. The suspect has already been through several lawyers.

"They indicated an appeal will be filed, pre-trial,"prosecutor Darwin Miller tells 9-news. "This means we stay on course and avoids delays in the case."

Jackson is accused of shooting Alexandra Engler and her daughter, Ariana, during a home invasion in September 2010. He is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Engler was shot to death inside her Beauregard Town home. Her daughter, who was nine years old at the time, was seriously wounded in the attack.

Investigators said Jackson's DNA was found on Engler's door.

Aramis Jackson shot and killed Alexandra Engler during a fatal 2010 home invasion at the 42-year-old single mother's Beauregard Town residence, but her then-9-year-old daughter who was shot multiple times in the attack and still managed to make a chilling 911 call to police is the one who asked that his life be spared, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III said Friday after Jackson pleaded guilty in exchange for a life prison term.
