Suspect arrested after body parts found at Bronx trash facility

Police have a suspect in custody in connection with the discovery of parts of a woman's body in a garbage transfer station in the Bronx.

40-year-old Somorie Moses, who lives in East Flatbush, is charged with concealment of a human corpse.

Moses is a convicted sex offender. He was convicted in 2006 of attempted promoting of prostitution and profiting from prostitution from a person younger than 16.

Last Tuesday police responded to the Bronx facility on a report of body parts found there.

After days of searching, detectives uncovered two arms, a leg and torso of a woman.

In the early morning hours on Tuesday, two dozen private carting trucks unloaded their garbage after midnight.

One of the facility operators discovered the torso and leg, and work immediately stopped.

The victim has not yet been identified.

Police have collared a registered sex offender they believe is behind the murder and dismemberment of an unidentified woman discovered last week in a Bronx waste transfer station–following the grisly discovery of additional body parts his home freezer.

Somorie Moses, 40, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, after investigators found the woman’s head, hands and feet crammed inside the icebox at his Flatbush home.

The ghoulish find comes just five days after a worker operating a pay loader at the Metropolitan Transfer Station on Halleck Street in Hunts Point unearthed a torso and footless leg amidst the trash.

Moses has been charged with concealment of a human corpse, and was awaiting arraignment Sunday.

The woman has yet to be identified, and the Medical Examiner has yet to announce an official cause of death.

Moses is a registered Level 2 sex offender who was busted back in 2006 for promoting the prostitution of a girl under 16, records show.

Neighbor Winston Rouse, 72, said he saw police arresting Moses at his home near Erasmus Street near Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush.

“They were trying to restrain him, trying to get the cuffs on him,” Rouse said. “He wasn’t cuffed yet. There were more than six cops. He wasn’t resisting. He didn’t fight them. He didn’t say anything. The guys were just on top of him.”

“I was shocked,” he added. “I see him in the hall, talk, say how are you, that kind of thing.”

Yvonne Roldan, 39, who lives in Moses’ building and was placed there by a non-profit mental health and social service agency, said the building is known as a troubled spot.

“You hear a lot of screaming in this building,” she said. “A lot of domestic violence. The cops are always here.”

“This person should not have been placed to live [here] unsupervised,” she added.

The woman whose dismembered body parts were found at a Bronx waste facility was the girlfriend of the man believed to be responsible for her death, police sources said.

Somorie Moses is accused of throwing his girlfriend’s limbs and headless torso in the trash that ended up at Metropolitan Transfer Station on Halleck Street in Hunts Point, where a worker found the remains last Tuesday.

So far, authorities have only charged Moses with concealing a human corpse, but sources said he is believed to have killed the woman before disposing of her body.

Police arrested Moses Sunday afternoon at his home in Flatbush, Brooklyn, where investigators discovered the woman’s head, hands and feet crammed into his freezer, sources said.

Blood was spattered around the apartment, which Moses attempted to clean up using bleach, police sources said.

Cops also found men’s and women’s clothing soaked in blood inside the apartment that police are working to extract DNA from, sources said.

The dead woman has not been identified by police as the Medical Examiner’s office continues to investigate the recovered body parts.
