ROPER, Washington County - Officials have arrested a man for the rape and murder of a 69-year-old Washington County Murder. Following an investigation into the dead of Mary Maggie Swain, 69, of Roper, police have charged 23-year-old Alexander Simpson with one open count of murder and first degree rape.
According to Sheriff Johnny Barnes, Simpson was arrested Tuesday night. He remains in the Washington County Jail under no bond.
On December 9th, Mary Maggie Swain was found dead inside a car on Backwoods Road in Roper. An autopsy completed Monday confirmed Swain was killed and died from blunt force trauma to the head.
