A mugger tried to steal a womanís purse at a Lower Manhattan subway station last month but ran away when she put up a fight, authorities said.

The 28-year-old woman had just exited the turnstile at the Fulton Street station near Nassau Street when the man came up behind her and latched onto her purse around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 16.

The would-be thief cut one of the bagís straps and the victim fell to the ground as she struggled to hang onto her property, cops said.

The man eventually gave up and ran toward one of the stationís platformís.

He is approximately 45-years-old, stands about 6-feet and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

He was last seen wearing large frame glasses, black head phones, a navy blue baseball hat, a black jacket with white interior, a black wide neck t-shirt, black pants and holding a black back pack.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPDís Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
