UPDATE: Roanoke police identify Tuesday morning’s deadly workplace shooter
Updated: October 25, 2016, 5:40 pm

UPDATE: (3:45 p.m.) – During a 3 p.m. news conference, Roanoke police released the identity of the man they say killed two people, including himself, and shot three others on Tuesday morning.

Police say Getachew Fekede, 53, of Kenya, worked at FreightCar America until March of this year. After he missed three days of work, police say he was terminated. Police also said that there was no previous contact with him at FreightCar America until Tuesday’s shooting.

While he worked at FreightCar America, all indications were that he was a hard worker, so there’s no true indication as to what led to the shooting, according to police.

During the news conference, Roanoke Police Chief Tim Jones said that Fekede fired 10 rounds from a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun in the paint shop, where employees paint box cars. The ATF is looking into how he acquired the handgun he used.

Police say that one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police have not yet determined if those shot were supervisors or coworkers of Fekede.

Fekede died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Police also said that he lived in Roanoke in the 2000 block of Lynn Avenue SW and came to Virginia in 2011 through a refugee immigration program.

Police are not releasing the victims names at this time out of consideration for the family members, some of whom are out of state.

Daniel Brown was killed in a shooting at FreightCar America Tuesday morning. His girlfriend, Vickie Hawkins, said he was a 14-year U.S. Army veteran who served as an engineer during Desert Storm in a non-combat role. In this photo, he's shown riding with the Blue Ridge Fire Department in a recent Veterans Day parade.
