More details emerge on fatal shooting in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE The city's sixth homicide of the year started because of jealousy over a Facebook post, according to police reports.

Ashlyn Salomon, 25, of Fort Pierce, remained in the St. Lucie County Jail Sunday without bail on a charge of second degree murder, a charge that means he didn't initially plan to shoot the victim, Jonathan Maciel, 34, of Fort Pierre, police said.

Before the shooting, Maciel angered his live-in girlfriend by talking with another woman through Facebook, according to an arrest affidavit. They began arguing outside an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Avenue D the night of Aug. 23.

The woman's daughter joined in, defending her mother, and she called her boyfriend, Salomon, who lives in the same complex. He left work and drove there while listening to the ongoing argument on his phone, according to reports. Upon his arrival, he jumped out of his car to confront Maciel. When the two men began fighting, the mother and daughter intervened, separating them. :p

Maciel went into his apartment and came out and appeared to be holding something which Salomon assumed meant Maciel was armed, according to the arrest affidavit.

Salomon's girlfriend yelled, "Please don't do it" as Salomon opened fire with a handgun he had in his car. Maciel collapsed on the pavement.

Maciel was shot seven times in the back and once in the face, the affidavitsaid. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No handgun was found on Maciel, police reports show.
