Shelter raising money for dog viciously beaten in Jersey City; owner charged with abuse

JERSEY CITY -- Liberty Humane Society is raising money to help offset the medical costs for a young dog brutally beaten by her owner.

Earlier this month, animal control officers were called to a West Side Avenue home to rescue Feather -- believed to be between the ages of 1 and 2 -- who had a broken right femur and cuts and bruises on her torso and face, officials said.

The dog's two puppies, Jacob and Joshua, were also taken from the home, uninjured. The owner, Farrakhan Williams, 36, admitted to authorities that he punched the dog and has been charged with animal cruelty, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced today.

Authorities found the dogs after a search warrant was executed at Williams' home as part of a drug investigation that resulted in the seizing of heroin, marijuana, and crack cocaine from the home. He was charged with nine narcotics offenses, the HCPO said.

An investigation revealed that Williams punched Feather and locked her in the bathroom for "several days" as punishment, the Prosecutor's Office said.

A source with knowledge of the investigation said Feather's puppies were given "bleach water."
