A reader helped U.S. marshals and police catch an accused rapist this morning.

Marshall Berry, 47, was arrested after a tipster read the Fugitive of the Week story in the Sunday Plain Dealer, Deputy Marshal Brian Fitzgibbon said.

The tipster called 9-1-1 and Cleveland police found Berry at 3 a.m. in a house in the 2700 block of Community College Avenue.

Berry is accused of assaulting and raping a mentally-disabled woman at a Cleveland church.

CLEVELAND, Ohio A Cleveland sex offender is accused of pistol-whipping a woman and threatening to shoot her 1-year-old daughter during a robber.

Marshall Berry, 56, is charged with aggravated robbery. Berry is serving a 152-day sentence at the Cleveland House of Corrections for petty theft and trespassing in a vehicle.

No court date has been scheduled for the armed robbery case.

Berry about 9:30 p.m. on March 13 walked up to a woman and her daughter at the intersection of East 14th Street and Sumner Avenue.

He pistol-whipped the woman in the head and stole her wallet, according to police. Berry threatened to shoot her daughter and ran off.

Berry's criminal history spans three decades. He is a Tier III sex offender stemming from a 2009 conviction for sexual battery against a 36-year-old woman. He was sentenced to two years in prison in that case.

Berry has been convicted in 18 felony cases since 1980.
