PRINCETON An investigation into the shooting of a local clerk that led to the self-inflicted shooting death of a suspect has ended, according to the Princeton Police Department.

During the early morning hours of April 28, the Princeton Police Department was alerted about a shooting at the Little General Store, BP station, on Stafford Drive. Chief John Howell of the Princeton Police Department said she was married with one child. The robbery occurred approximately 2:30 a.m. A witness, who was outside the station, immediately called police.

About five to 10 minutes after the initial call, police found the suspect, 19-year-old Shakim Saunders of Princeton, in his car at the intersection of South Seventh and Bluefield Avenue. He had died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Howell later said at a press conference that police were convinced the suspect, Saunders, was the same man who had fled from the store. An undisclosed amount of cash had been taken.
