An armed man fleeing from cops was thwarted Friday morning when he literally ran into a pair of unsuspecting residents waiting out alternate-side parking near Washington Square Park.

“My friend and I were talking, waiting for the sweeper to come by, and all of a sudden this guy came around the corner running, and ‘Boom!’ He ran into my friend and pushed him down. They both went down,” said Orlando, 74, a West Village resident.

“His cap came off on the side of my car, and the handle of the gun came off — whatever it is that covers the handle.”

Police were responding to a 911 call of a man with a gun near Washington Square Park, officials said. The call came in about 9:20 a.m. Friday.

The run-in with the civilians slowed the gun-wielding thug down enough that police caught up with him and took him into custody. Charges were pending, according to cops.

The arrest happened on Washington Place between Sixth and Seventh avenues, according to Orlando.

“The guy was talking crazy, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ cursing the police and all that stuff,” Orlando said.
