Three federal law enforcement officers were wounded when multiple shots were exchanged late Saturday between the officers and a gunman at the Country Club Motel, 3732 S.W. Topeka.

Shortly before 10 p.m., two U.S. Marshal Service deputies and one FBI agent suffered gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening as they approached a room at the Country Club Motel late Saturday, U.S. Marshal Ron Miller for the District of Kansas said early Sunday. Miller didnt identify the wounded federal deputies or the FBI agent.

Miller said the subject in the room fired at the three law enforcement officers who in turn fired back, Miller said.

The (Fugitive) Task Force was here to arrest him, Miller said referring to the gunman in the room. Miller did not identify the gunman who was being sought. It hasn't been clarified whether the gunman is alive, wounded or dead.

FBI: Task Force trying to capture Orlando Collins at time of shootout, large fire; Body found

Updated: Sun 1:57 PM, Apr 24, 2016

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force was trying to capture Orlando Collins at the time of a shootout that injured three federal agents, the FBI confirms. A large blaze following the gunfire destroyed the motel where it occurred.

The 28 year-old suspect was on the Northeast Kansas Most Wanted List when investigators determined he may be at the Country Club Motel and went there Saturday to arrest him. Collins had been linked to armed robberies that occurred as recently as the day before and was considered armed and dangerous.

The FBI said a body was found inside the motel room where Collins was believed to be, but they have not identified it.
