SALEM, Mass. (WHDH) -

Salem Police have identified a man they say shot at police officers Thursday night.

Police released a wanted poster on Friday, identifying the person as Jeremiah Wooden, 23. Wooden is wanted for attempted murder of a police officer.

Police say at about 6:15 p.m. two Salem Police officers were attempting to apprehend Wooden on Fairfield Street.

During the process of taking Wooden into custody, police say he pulled out a gun and fired at the officers. The officers were not hit.

Wooden then ran from the scene. Police say the gun was recovered.

Wooden is described as a black man, 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

A woman who lives nearby said she heard shots and went outside to find jewelry in her driveway and clothing in her backyard.

Police searched with dogs in the area around Fairfield Street. People in the area were asked to stay in their homes during the search.

The search for the suspect is ongoing.
