New Jersey School District Considers Transgender Restroom Policy
Published 4 hours ago

A northern New Jersey school district is deciding whether to adopt a policy that would allow students to use restrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity.

The Record newspaper reports the Pascack Valley Regional High School District is set to vote Monday at a meeting in Hillsdale on a policy they say is designed to protect transgender students' rights.

The meeting will be the second time the proposal is up for a vote. The board tabled the issue in February after parents and residents voiced concerns. Some parents have raised privacy issues for students who aren't transgender.

But the district says the policy is needed to comply with anti-discrimination laws.

If approved, the policy would follow several other New Jersey school districts that have passed similar measures.
