Bodies found in Detroit home believed to be missing girl who prompted AMBER Alert

(WXYZ) - Two bodies found inside a house on Detroit's east side are believed to be that of a missing 4-year-old girl and her mother.

According to police, an AMBER Alert was issued for 4-year-old Savannah Walker just after 2 a.m. Saturday. The home is about 3.5 miles from where Savannah was last seen.

The other body is believed to be Savannah's mother.

Michigan State Police believe she with a 33-year-old man named Marcus Hightower. He's described as a black male, with brown eyes and black hair.

Police are looking for a 2004 black four-door Ford Explorer with the license plate DFJ5377.

Michigan State police say he has a history of violence going back to 2007.


2 bodies found in house fire, appear to be related to Amber Alert

Detroit fire and Detroit police investigators are on-scene of a house fire on Detroit's east side.

The fire broke out in the basement of the home around 6 a.m. sources say. When fire crews extinguished the fire, 2 bodies were found in the basement.

Craig called Hightower a "person of interest" this morning during a press conference. Craig went on to say that Hightower is currently on parole and has a history of domestic violence. Hightower is believed to have been in a relationship with Savannah's mother, Heidi Walker, 39.

DETROIT - UPDATE: 33-year-old Marcus Hightower, a person of interest in the Amber Alert issued for 4-year-old Savannah Walker, has turned himself in to Detroit Police.

According to Detroit police, Hightower walked into Detroit's ninth police precinct early on Sunday morning.


The older daughter also details a history of abuse between her mother and Hightower. She says he bit her forehead on New Year’s Eve, leaving her bloodied. She also says he beat and choked her throughout their six-month relationship.

Police confirmed there was a history of domestic abuse between the mother and Hightower.

“I told him three weeks ago, ‘If anything ever happens to my mother or my sister, I’ll know it’s you,’” said the older daughter, who last spoke to her mother a week ago via text. “And look what’s happened.”

Hightower has a history of criminal violence and is on parole for assault with intent to commit murder..
