A habitual offender will spend the next three decades in prison for robbing and beating a woman at a local gas station.

Circuit Judge John T. Brown has sentenced Demetrius Augustus Cobb, 55, to 30 years in the Department of Corrections as a prison releasee reoffender and habitual felony offender for the crime of robbery.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, the punishment imposed Thursday is the maximum sentence that could have been imposed based upon the classification by law.

A jury convicted Cobb after a one-day trial in December 2015. The case stemmed from an incident that took place on December 27, 2014, in Fort Walton Beach.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, the victim in the case parked her car at a gas station located at the intersection of Lovejoy Road and Mary Esther Cutoff. Cobb stopped his car directly in front of the victim’s car, approached the driver’s side door, and repeatedly struck the female driver.

While the victim attempted to resist, Cobb overcame the resistance and took a cell phone from her. He then fled the scene. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video.
