JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County -

An arrest has been made in the double homicide which happened in Jacksonville on January 3.

According to a press release from the Jacksonville Police Department, Willie Alexander George Jr., 31, is charged with two counts of second degree murder in the deaths of Khalil Kirkland, 17, and Carl Eisert, 72.

NewsChannel 12 contacted the jail, they confirmed George Jr. will make his first appearance on Thursday.

According to the press release, the preliminary investigation revealed the deaths of both Eisert and Kirkland were the result of the assault by George. George was charged and arrested by Jacksonville Police Detectives Wednesday night at the Onslow County Jail, where he was being held on assault charges for a separate case. He remains there under a $500,000 bond.

Police said officers were called to men laying in the road along Gum Branch Road. The call came in at 10:41 p.m. on Jan. 3. The first victim was found near Gum Branch and DeWitt Street. He was identified as Eisert and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers then found the second victim at Gum Branch Road and Nottingham Road. Kirkland was also pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were found about a half mile apart.

Yaniero said the victims' deaths appeared to be from blunt force trauma. An autopsy was performed on the bodies last week.
