Police say DNA evidence led to a murder charge against a Davenport man.

On July 15 Claude Hanson, 62, was stabbed in his home in the 3800 block of Bridge Avenue. He died seven days later.

During the investigation officers recovered DNA samples at the scene that led to the identification of Robert Carter, 54.

Officers say Carter broke into Hanson's home and waited for him to return. When he did, police say Carter stabbed him and stole his wallet.

Carter was already in the Scott County Jail on charges of burglary and public intoxication. On November 25 he was charged with 1st degree murder and 1st degree burglary. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
