NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in northern New Jersey have arrested a Montclair man and charged him with the fatal shooting of a college student last weekend.
Ernest Williams is charged with murder, robbery and weapons offenses. Victim Brian Schiavetti was found at a residence in Montclair shot multiple times on Sunday. A preliminary investigation has concluded that the 21-year-old from Ridgefield, Conn., was shot during a robbery.
Schiavetti was a student at Villanova University.
Williams is being held on $750,000 bail.

Ernest Williams Jr., 21, has been arrested and charged for the murder of Brian Schiavetti.
Police believe Williams shot and killed Schiavetti during a robbery.
Williams faces murder, robbery and weapons charges, and he's being held on $750,000 bail.

Two Men Indicted In 2012 Shooting Death Of Villanova Student

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Two men have been indicted in the shooting death of a Pennsylvania college student in northern New Jersey.
The shooting occurred last July in Montclair. Villanova University student Brian Schiavetti died from multiple gunshot wounds and was found in an apartment building.
Indicted in the Ridgewood, Conn., resident’s murder are Ernest Williams and James Pitts, both of Montclair.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says the killing resulted from an attempted robbery.
Williams faces, murder, robbery and weapons charges and is due to be arraigned on April 2. He is being held on $750,000 bail.
Pitts is charged with robbery conspiracy and conspiracy to violate narcotics laws. He also faces arraignment on April 2.
It was not known if the defendants had retained attorneys.

Brian Andrew Schiavetti, On Sunday, July 22, 2012, Brian Andrew Schiavetti, 21, of Ridgefield, Connecticut passed away unexpectedly. Brian was born on February 10, 1991. In addition to his loving parents, Diane Schiavetti of Ridgefield and Francis X. Schiavetti of Delray Beach, Florida, he is survived by his sister, Jennifer Stockburger, brothers, Anthony and Stephen, maternal grandparents, Edward and Jacqueline Goin of Brookfield, and paternal grandparents, Anthony and Geraldine Schiavetti of Delray Beach. Brian was also loved immensely by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his little niece Karalina and nephews Mason, Samuel, and Nathan. His family and countless heartbroken friends whose lives Brian touched will forever remember this loving, compassionate young man. Brian graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2009. He played lacrosse and football, and enjoyed snowboarding, swimming, and water sports.
Brian attended the Villanova University School of Business, and was scheduled to graduate in 2013. He spent this summer studying at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. Brian loved music, sports, and travel, but he loved his family and his friends above all else. He brought life into every room into which he walked with his positive outlook and gentle nature. He was always quick with a kind word, and was ever there for his friends and family. Brian will be forever loved and missed. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, July 25th from 4:00 through 8:00 p.m. at Saint Mary's Parish Hall, 183 High Ridge Road, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday July 26th at 10:15 am with Monsignor Lawrence Bronkiewicz presiding, also in the parish hall. Man convicted in Montclair drug deal killing

NEWARK — A Montclair man was convicted Monday of robbing and fatally shooting another man in 2012 after leading him into a township apartment building to buy drugs.
Ernest Williams Jr., 24, was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter, robbery and related offenses in connection with the July 22, 2012 killing of Brian Schiavetti. Williams was acquitted of a murder charge.
His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14 before Superior Court Judge Carolyn Wright.
