Bond has been set for a woman suspected in a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a Kilgore 5-year-old.

Kyrsten Nycole McCarty, 25, of Kilgore, was arrested Monday and booked into the Kilgore Municipal Jail. She was later transferred to the Gregg County Jail, where she is being held on $75,000 bond for a charge of accident involving death.

According to police, McCarty was driving a silver 2006 Dodge Caravan on Sunday when she allegedly struck and killed Robert Jack Moorhead. The vehicle has been located and seized by police.

On Monday afternoon at 4:36, Gregg County Justice of the Peace Talyna Carlson issued a warrant of arrest for McCarty. She was arrested and booked into the Kilgore Municipal Jail.

Police say that just after 3 p.m. Sunday, police officers and firefighters responded to the 1900 block of Florence Street, where they found a male child had been struck by a gray minivan. According to Kilgore Police Chief Todd Hunter, the child had been riding a push scooter, and was hit in the southbound lane of Florence near Driller Park. The child's mother, Brittani Henry, said Robert was going home from a church activity with his older siblings and a babysitter.

Suspect in Kilgore hit-and-run may have tried to shake police

The suspect in a hit-and-run that killed a 5-year-old boy in Kilgore was arrested despite her apparent efforts to mislead investigators through social media postings.

n a comment made at 7:07 p.m. Sunday on a post by the Kilgore Police Department regarding the case, she wrote, "I saw a gray van being driven by a white woman and I wanna say a Mexican man on the passenger side turning on to the other side of Florence across Woodlawn. I didn't see any damage ... I was pulled over earlier and when I heard why my heart broke. I hope this information was helpful."

Roberson said Tuesday that he was aware of the comment.

"I haven't looked at it specifically, but of course anything related to the case our investigators will capture and put it in their case file," he said.

In a post at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, "Kyrsten Yellanycole McCarty" wrote, in part, "I hope they find who did it. And I'm praying for the families and why I'm very very strict about someone being outside with my kids ... people CONSTANTLY fly down this street."

McCarty also lives on Florence Street, according to arrest records.

In a news release Sunday, Kilgore police said the boy was struck by a gray minivan that was being driven by a white woman. It said the minivan might have front-end damage.

McCarty's arrest report lists her as black.

The minivan she was driving was found and seized by police, Roberson said. The police department did not say where her vehicle was found.

"It actually ended up being a silver minivan," Roberson said.
